"In a re-creation of the Wright Brothers’ maiden flight on the windy dunes of North Carolina’s Outer Banks 80 years prior, the aircraft took off and landed a mere 100 yards or so down range. Unlike the Wright Flyer, however, this was not a turn of the century experimental flying machine. This was a late 20th-century passenger jet that was designed to travel at more than 25,000 feet at a speed of 500 plus miles an hour. It felt something like a ride on a Ferris wheel that had gone haywire, doing one complete revolution in 3 seconds."
